“We are Sisters Serving the Community”

The theme I chose for the 2017-18  SILM year,  is from the song “We Are Family”  by Sister Sledge.  I chose this theme because I think it exemplifies the goals and visions of Soroptimists.  Every time I hear the song on the radio, this is what I hear……………

“We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family

Serving the community

Everyone can see we’re together
As we service the community
And we fly just like birds of a feather

As we dare to dream for women and girls

Amazing things can happen

All of the people around us say
Can we be that close
Just let me state for the record
We’re giving love and Soroptimist service in a family dose

Living life is fun and we’ve just begun
To help women and girls live their dreams
High hopes we have for the future
And our goal’s in sight

Here’s what we call our golden rule

Have faith in all the things we do

As we service women and girls in the community

We had our 2017-18 Planning meeting last Saturday, July 8, 2017.   What a great planning meeting it was!

We had a new member induction and even had a potential new member attend the meeting.

The facilitator this year was Genevieve Rohan, our District III Director.  Genevieve helped us with ideas that covered the four “Pillars”:  Membership, Fundraising, Programs, and Public Awareness.  I know we will have a very productive year accomplishing the Soroptimist mission:  “Improving the lives of Women and Girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.”

I look forward to working with “my family of Soroptimist sisters”!
