On January 20th, we gave our first WOW (Women’s Opportunity
Workshop). These WOW workshops were given at the San Diego Rescue
Mission. Ruth Gillis MFT (a former SILM member) gave a workshop on
coping skills and our own member Nancy Wong gave a workshop on
forgiveness. There were about 26 women that attended the workshops.
The participants said they really enjoyed the presentations and got a lot of
useful information out of them. We are planning to give more of these
inspiring workshops this year.

January was Human Sex Trafficking Awareness month and STAT
(Soroptimist Together against Trafficking) had their “Salutes to Our Mission
Heroes” event on January 26th. This year they gave out mini grants to
three organizations that provide services to victims of human trafficking
and had six honorees.

The Live Your Dream Award Program Meeting is fast approaching and we
will be introducing our two winners. They are inspiring young women.
SILM will continue to work on our Mission of “Improving the lives of
Women and Girls through programs leading to social and economic
empowerment.”
